Fuel Air ExplosionWhile not one of the big NBC's (nuclear, biological, chemical), great devastation results from FAE, or low-technology fuel air explosions. Explosions will occur with a sparse amount of aerosolized fuel, and a spark. The fuel need not be anything so esoteric as rocket fuel, mere dust will do, as veterans of grain silo explosions will attest. In the event you needed convincing regarding the power of what a FAE can do, witness this animation:
The barriers required to create such power are very low. Nearly any organic matter when properly aerosolized will catastrophically explode with even low temperature ignition, on the order of five hundred degrees Fahrenheit. We're not going to turn this into a lesson on bomb making. That is the job of Encyclopedia Britannica. |
